Interview with Marco Quirino, Managing Director of ENRICH in LAC

Marco Quirino recently became the new Managing Director of ENRICH Latin America. Under Marco’s leadership, the ENRICH Centre will continue to support innovation system and the intercontinental connection between Europe and Latin America and Caribbean. As the director of ENRICH Centre, Marco is motivated by the opportunity to foster innovation as a key aspect of this relevant project. In addition, he will support the interaction between the Centre and the whole ecosystem of innovation, such as universities, private companies, researchers, and all stakeholders involved in Europe and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

Marco Quirino has a strong leadership background with more than 30 years of management experience in Latin America as well as with the United States and Europe. He has conducted business with diverse company cultures, such as: The Dow Chemical Company, Fosfertil, Braskem, Univar, Air Products and DSI Partners. Marco has deep knowledge in building high performance teams, achieving improved results, developing long-term relationships with customers and suppliers and managing cultural changes, always driven by safety and integrity.

His academic background includes: Mechanical Engineering diploma from Mackenzie University (São Paulo, Brazil) and specialization degrees from University of São Paulo (USP, Brasil), INSEAD (France), Wharton Business School (UPENN, USA) and Said Business School (Oxford, England). Marco is also a member of IBGC (Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance) and has acquired certifications on Board Member and Family Business Management. Angel investor at Poliangels, Marco has lived 8 years in Mexico City and is the father of Vittoria and Pedro.

In regards to his first impressions as Executive Director of ENRICH Centre, Marco Quirino affirmed:

“The main challenge of the Executive Director is to handle the tasks of Centre in order to deliver high value to the members. The key impression of the innovation ecosystem is the fact that both LAC members and European community are willing to get closer to improve jointly. ENERICH in LAC team have a knowledgeable, talented, and committed group of people engaged in the project both in Latin America and Europe. By the cooperation of EU and LAC I see enormous opportunities to develop innovation and life quality for the people of both regions related to Health, Bio-economy, Renewable Energy, Sustainable Urbanization and Digital Transformation. “

Finally, Marco highlighted his goals for the ENRICH Centre. In the position of Executive Director, he wishes to conduct all tasks with quality to assure the success of ENRICH and its members. “By providing high value to the members, the ENRICH Centre can be self-sustainable organization that is important cornerstone for the science, technology and innovation cooperation of Europe and Latin America and Caribbean regions”, said Marco.
